Don’t Quit!

dontquitblueetsy

I’ve been finding it difficult with my art shop recently, I don’t think the Summer slow down helps at all for your confidence. Getting used to the quieter seasons and the busier seasons is something I am still learning and also learning how to stay encouraged and keep creating.

Sometimes it’s really hard not to look at what you’re doing and think ‘it’s not good enough’, ‘I’m not as successful as…’, or ‘does my work really speak to people?’.

What I’ve learnt is that the more I look outside myself for ‘the answers’ the more miserable I am. It’s only when I say to myself ‘you are being true to who you are’, ‘you are creating from your heart’, ‘you are following your own dreams’, then I realise I’m on the right track!

We all need some encouragement and so this post is to really cheer you on and say even though it gets hard sometimes, even though you may look at others and think they are more successful then you are, stop. Look into your own heart and know that you need to be you and that is what being successful is.

Stop comparing yourself to others and don’t quit! Get up and do what you were created to do!

Because you are special!

Saying Yes to…

Hey friends, how is your week going so far?

Mine is going so much better than last week, that’s for sure! I’m looking forward to some fun times this week. We are decorating our bedroom atm so it’s a little (understatement) frustrating right now because we are having to sleep downstairs where there isn’t so much room and with Ellie downstairs, who happens to love a cosy bed (who have thought it?) well let’s just say I’ll be glad when we can move back upstairs! It’ll be great to have a beautiful bedroom for the first time since moving here yay!

This morning I was reading Jolie’s blog about saying Yes to wonderful things in life and thought it would be fun to list the things I am saying Yes to right now…

Sketching

sketchjune2011

I’ve always been passionate about drawing, it’s something that has brought me much joy and while I’m in the process of drawing something, everything else around me is silenced and I feel at peace. Losing your self in a drawing is wonderful.

Just lately I’ve been trying to make drawing a bigger part of my life and I’m really loving it.

At the weekend I was feeling particularly anxious on a car ride and whilst waiting for Hubby I decided to get out a piece of paper from my bag and a pen and just drew. It didn’t matter what it was, or if it was any good I just drew because I wanted to and instantly the anxiety left me. There’s something about refocusing your energy into something positive that drives the fear away. So I intend to make this a habit, to help keep me calm when I feel vulnerable and also just to enjoy more of this wonderful gift I’ve been given by God.

I started up ‘The Journal Project’ recently and it’s been such a great thing to get people drawing again and making drawing a bigger part of their lives. The simplicity of taking paper and a pencil just makes it so much easier to begin.

I hope you’ll join us and share your sketches.

The Journal Project–Come Join Us!

It’s here, it’s here!! I am so excited about this project, I do hope you’ll join me!

How to take part:

Take 1 sketchbook, 1 pencil and 1 eraser and draw for at least 5 mins per day, whilst waiting, watching tv, sitting outside, whenever you can find 5mins or more to sketch, doodle or write.

1 Rule:

It must be positive! Only draw things that are good, positive and loving, no dark art or adult content please. Drawing good things will make you feel fantastic even if you had been having a bad day till then. Conjure up good memories and draw from that place.

The aim:

To get people who have a passion for drawing back to it, in a simple way just taking a small amount of time daily, building up a sketchbook of happy doodles to make you smile.
For project ideas or just for yourself this project will help you to enrich your life, use the gift inside of you and feed that passion of wanting to draw.

Join us on Flickr where you can post your sketches: http://www.flickr.com/groups/journalproject

Have fun! Feel free to grab our button on the left and tell your friends about us.

You Are Good Enough!

youaregoodenoughblog

Following on from my last post, I sat down to paint my first painting since my miracle and look what came out! I was painting in the background first and trying to see what was there and then I saw them, these two little whimsical characters and a little house. I went with it and discovered that these two are symbolic of what has happened to me and I knew instantly that this would be called ‘You ARE Good Enough!’. How perfect!

It’s been quite an adventure to paint since my miracle, I’ve felt like God is working on me to refine my skills and paintings are happening that are total surprises to me, like this one. I think they are quite cute, don’t you?

Looking forward to sharing more with you on this adventure.

Stop Hiding – Step Out in Faith

stophidingsmall

Do you ever feel like hiding? Perhaps you keep your ideas to yourself for fear of being laughed at? Or perhaps you don’t let yourself go fully when you are around certain people because you fear you might be judged?

For many years I’ve hidden my true self, only allowing people to see the parts of me that I was ok about sharing. I’ve always been pretty shy and preferred to keep my thoughts and ideas to myself when around others. I even held back with my art for fear of not being ‘good enough’.

Well, on Tuesday I had an amazing experience with God that has released me from a lot of negative thoughts, bad self image and depression that had been looming over me for several years and just recently had become a lot worse. I allowed God to work in me and completely surrendered to Him knowing I could no longer ‘fix’ this myself.

Since then I feel ‘me’ again, I am free of those negative thoughts and feelings about myself, the past doesn’t hurt me anymore and I feel light and free to be me. I can’t tell you how good this feels. I painted ‘Stop Hiding’ last week before my miracle happened and now I believe it is the perfect message that when you step out in faith you will be rewarded.

Trust and be yourself, the world needs you to!
