Whimsical Drawings…

autumnleavesfront

I’ve always been passionate about drawing. Since I was a little girl and would sit for hours working on a drawing. As I grew up fears crept in and I ended up putting it aside for many years. Once I started up painting in 2008 I got back to drawing and haven’t looked back since.

Just lately, I’ve been doing a lot more sketching for ‘The Journal Project’ and sketching at Church too. So I decided to start offering my drawings in my shop for you, a whimsical treat to adorn your walls which is something different from my paintings Smile

This was so much fun to work on and very calming.

Sketching Bliss

1staugsketchesblog

I’ve been really enjoying daily (almost) sketching in my Moleskine. Now I’ve got into the groove of it and don’t think about it too much (meaning worry) I just sketch away and enjoy myself. Last night I enjoyed listening to the latest Paper Wings Podcast and sketched the above, I was in a ‘eyes’ mood. Open-mouthed smile

I even had the courage to take my sketchbook and draw at the Physio waiting room last week whilst waiting for my Mum. I shrinked back when I got nice comments (I’m still shy about getting attention for my drawing, silly I know) and just kept sketching lol. Yes I am serious about making drawing a much larger part of my life even if I am really shy about it and want to hide when people look at me. It’s a growing thing I know I need to get over!!

Practice is what is required on all counts!

Anyway, fellow sketchers I want to take the opportunity to invite you over to our group: The Journal Project where we share our sketches, encouraging each other to do a little drawing daily. Come and join us.

It’s been a hot and humid day today, I’m hoping as we walk Ellie in a bit it’ll be a lot cooler.

Have a great evening

Sketching in the Garden

DSC00112

After a hard mornings gardening I came out and was admiring the beauty of our garden that has gone from mud heap to tranquil beauty and has turned out even better than I had visualised all those years ago. The sun was shining, it was warm and I just wanted to soak up the atmosphere of my dream garden finally being real.

So I got out a blanket and my sketching stuff and just drew. It was bliss! I wanted to stay out there, I had Paulette’s Divine Romance class to attend and the silly laptop did not like being outside so I packed up and went back inside. I hope I get to enjoy more sketching in the garden, it’s so much fun and I get to add those sketches to the pool at ‘The Journal Project!’

Hoping you’re enjoy sunny days out in your garden too.

Sketching

sketchjune2011

I’ve always been passionate about drawing, it’s something that has brought me much joy and while I’m in the process of drawing something, everything else around me is silenced and I feel at peace. Losing your self in a drawing is wonderful.

elliesketchjune2011

Just lately I’ve been trying to make drawing a bigger part of my life and I’m really loving it.

At the weekend I was feeling particularly anxious on a car ride and whilst waiting for Hubby I decided to get out a piece of paper from my bag and a pen and just drew. It didn’t matter what it was, or if it was any good I just drew because I wanted to and instantly the anxiety left me. There’s something about refocusing your energy into something positive that drives the fear away. So I intend to make this a habit, to help keep me calm when I feel vulnerable and also just to enjoy more of this wonderful gift I’ve been given by God.

I started up ‘The Journal Project’ recently and it’s been such a great thing to get people drawing again and making drawing a bigger part of their lives. The simplicity of taking paper and a pencil just makes it so much easier to begin.

I hope you’ll join us and share your sketches.

Creative in the garden

pinktulips2011

Last September I planted these beauties, it’s the first year we’ve had flowers in our back garden. Very excited to see these come up and what stunning colours they are.

This is the greenhouse that Hubby built for me (yes he is pretty creative too Winking smile ) I’d sown some Marigold and Geranium seeds and they did so well, oh yes and Morning Glories too. They were all ready to come out the seed trays and into their own pots. So today I was taking them all out and potting up. I also then sowed more Geraniums (because the first packet had very little in and I want to fill up my window boxes with them this Summer) and I sowed Cosmos too, they are so easy to grow and have a beautiful show in Summer.

So now the greenhouse is full to bursting of plants, about 100 all told wow!

Can’t wait to be able to plant these in the garden! I always grow too many on purpose, 1) because you never know how many will turn out and 2) I LOVE to give plants away! Makes me smile on the inside and blesses others too. Open-mouthed smile

So that’s what I’ve been up to today in the garden, the Open Studio wasn’t a success I guess this gorgeous weather had people elsewhere but hey ho, the good news is I get to put the goodies in my Etsy shop for you to purchase instead!

I’m off to get editing pics and listing, be on the look out!

The Journal Project–Come Join Us!

It’s here, it’s here!! I am so excited about this project, I do hope you’ll join me!

How to take part:

Take 1 sketchbook, 1 pencil and 1 eraser and draw for at least 5 mins per day, whilst waiting, watching tv, sitting outside, whenever you can find 5mins or more to sketch, doodle or write.

1 Rule:

It must be positive! Only draw things that are good, positive and loving, no dark art or adult content please. Drawing good things will make you feel fantastic even if you had been having a bad day till then. Conjure up good memories and draw from that place.

The aim:

To get people who have a passion for drawing back to it, in a simple way just taking a small amount of time daily, building up a sketchbook of happy doodles to make you smile.
For project ideas or just for yourself this project will help you to enrich your life, use the gift inside of you and feed that passion of wanting to draw.

Join us on Flickr where you can post your sketches: http://www.flickr.com/groups/journalproject

Have fun! Feel free to grab our button on the left and tell your friends about us.

New Art Pendant Necklaces

necklace2fav necklace1fav  necklacecloseup  necklaceotherside

On Saturday I’ll be having my Spring Open Studio where I invite friends and family (and their friends) over to my home studio for a browse followed by tea and cake.

I usually run these at Christmas time and they are always a success, so I decided to run them throughout the year as well.

For this one I wanted to create some new fun products featuring my art without a ton of printing and putting together. Something special and handmade.

These necklaces were way more fun to make than I thought they would be and they turned out way better than I thought they would too. I am so pleased with them!!

They have an original painting on each side, so are a two in one necklace which is pretty cool. I have antique copper square frames, silver squares and silver long rectangles currently available. They come on either a brown or pink (of course) ribbon with a clasp fixing at the back.

These will be available for sale from Saturday at the open studio and then I will be offering them as commissions and possibly in the shop. I’m not sure how many I’ll make once this first batch is sold so make sure you get one while they are available. Smile

This week I’m working on more goodies for Saturday and I recorded the video for The Journal Project today, so look out for that on the blog tomorrow.

Have a great day!
